The Glissawax Range
The Glissawax Range consists of micronized Fisher-Tropes, Polyethylene and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) wax products.
These waxes are currently used in the following applications:
Liquid and paste inks
Powder coatings
Metallic inks
Waterbased coating
Coil coating
Wood finishes
The Glissawax Range can however, also be tailored to your specific coating needs using our bespoke service.
Glissaspray 8
A white spray micronized FT wax powder.
Properties: It is a hard material with a penetration reading of 1 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 5 – 9 microns; typically 6 microns. Used for its adhesion properties and matting qualities as well as its scratch, rub and wrinkle resistance.
Applications: Glissaspray 8 is most commonly used in liquid and paste printing inks applied to substrates such as Nitro-Cellulose films and Aluminium foils. It is also used for general use in standard powder coatings, hard finish waterbased coatings, standard coil coating formulations and backing-surface coatings for metal applications.
In summary, Glissaspray 8 is a popular, all-purpose, sprayed formulation wax used across most application areas.
Glissawax PSF-7
A white, air micronized PE wax powder.
Properties: Glissawax PSF-7 is a hard material with a penetration reading of 1 – 3 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 7 – 9 microns, typically 8 microns. PSF-7 is used for slip and rub resistance as well as preservation of gloss finishes.
Applications: It is used in standard liquid and paste printing ink formulations and high quality metallic printing inks (e.g. gold and silver coloured inks). PSF-7 is also used in waterbased coatings and powder coating formulations.
Glissawax PSF-7 is an excellent, all-purpose, micronized wax, offering a higher gloss finish compared to Glissaspray 8.
Glissawax Extra
A white PE and PTFE micronized wax powder blend.
Properties: It is a hard material with a penetration reading of 1 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 5 – 9 microns; typically 6 microns. Used for its adhesion properties and matting qualities as well as its scratch, rub and wrinkle resistance.
Applications: Glissawax Extra is used in powder coatings, waterbased coatings and liquid and paste printing inks applied to hard wearing white goods and plastic packaging.
The Glissawax Extra wax blend benefits from a modest amount of PTFE and is therefore an economical solution to solving many common hard ware requirements. For harder wearing requirements, we would recommend using Glissawax Plus.
Glissawax Plus
A white PE and PTFE micronized wax powder blend.
Properties: Glissawax Plus is a PTFE enhanced wax powder blend with a penetration reading of 1 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 4 – 7 microns, typically 6 microns. It is used for its adhesion properties as well as scratch and rub resistance.
Applications: Glissawax Plus is used in metal and coil coatings for the construction industry and in powder coatings and liquid and paste printing inks for difficult applications, such as irregular shaped plastic containers (e.g. margarine tubs). Also used in waterbased coatings where adhesion and high specification on scratch and rub resistance is essential.
Glissawax Plus is very popular with our customers as it offers a higher ratio of PTFE to PE wax blend, providing a superior hard wearing finish across a number of different applications, but again at economical rates.
Glissamide 14010
A non-toxic fatty amide synthetic wax blend of NN ethylene and Bis Stearamide manufactured as an off-white powder
Properties: Glissamide 14010 has an average particle size of 7 – 14 microns, typically 10 microns. It is used to promote lubrication for PVC and LDPE manufacturing, anti-scuff, mould release, slip, and as a surface sealer in under coats.
Applications: Glissamide 14010 is commonly used in basecoats, primers and wood finishes, plastics and plastic films, printing inks, gloss reduction coatings, paints, and inter-coat coatability in powder coatings.
Glissamide 14010 is our most popular amide wax; however, we can also provide this wax in a range of particle sizes up to a prill.
Glissamide 80010
A synthetic polyethylene (PE) wax in a white/off-white micronized powder form.
Properties: Low melting wax with an average particle size of 5 – 15 microns, typically 9 microns.
Applications: Typically used in the under-seal of motor vehicles for its waterproof, anti-rusting and low temperature cure properties.
This popular wax provides the motor industry with an energy saving solution to their rust prevention treatment due to low temperature cure.
Glissawax CP20
A fine, white, micronized PP/PE wax powder blend.
Properties: Glissawax CP20 is a hard material with a penetration reading of 1 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 5 – 9 microns, typically 7 microns. It is used to promote excellent scratch and abrasion resistance and has increased matting abilities compared to other standard waxes. It is known for its hard finish.
Applications: Glissawax CP20 is commonly used in matt coatings, coil coatings, can coatings and wood finishes.
Glissawax PEP 15
A fine, white, micronized Polypropylene/Polyethylene (PP/PE) wax powder blend.
Properties: Glissawax PEP 15 is a hard material with a penetration reading of 1 (0.1mm) and an average particle size of 5 – 8 microns, typically 7 microns. It is used to promote excellent scratch and abrasion resistance and slip control. It is known for its tough finish.
Applications: Used in waterbased coatings, can coatings, powder coatings and wood finishes.
Glissawax PEP 15 is very similar to Glissawax CP20 in that it offers a hard finish, however, PEP 15 creates a more glossy finish when compared to CP20.
Carnauba
A pale yellow micronized wax powder made up of a complex mixture of esters, wax acids and alcohols.
Properties: Carnauba has a slightly sweet odour with a density reading of 0.998 – 1.002.
Applications: Used in sweet coatings, pill coatings, and cosmetic applications.
Our carnauba waxes (T1, T3 and T4) are made to measure, available in a full range of particle sizes, ground or sprayed. If you require a specific grade, please call to discuss our bespoke service.
Wax Emulsion
A translucent, off-white, aqueous, nonionic emulsion of an oxidised polyethylene (PE) wax.
Properties: Wax Emulsion typically comprises of 26% PE wax and produced in a mobile, easily handled form with an average particle size of less than 0.06 and a polydispersity of 5.
Applications: We offer a range of wax emulsions for use in general waterbased printing inks and wall coverings. Our Wax Emulsion E18/40N is typically used in general formulation work e.g. floor polish/maintenance, paint and lacquers, paper and board, varnish, textiles, and wood/timber protection coatings. Our Wax Emulsion 3700 is recommended for more complex work e.g. wallpaper coatings because it offers longer lasting protection.
